Who we are.
San Leandro 2050 was founded in 2019 by a group of residents with the goal of reducing emissions to slow climate change while helping our community prepare for and recover from disasters such as heat waves, power outages, wildfires, and earthquakes. We focus especially on neighborhoods that already face environmental inequities and tend to have less access to City resources, often because of language barriers.
We believe climate action starts with people.
When neighbors know and trust one another, they are more likely to share resources, solve problems together, and take meaningful action. That’s why bringing people together and building strong community connections is at the heart of everything we do.
Community Garden Leads
San Leandro 2050’s community food garden is our longest-running project and a true expression of neighbors working, learning, sharing, and enjoying time together. Over the years, several gardeners have stepped into leadership roles, helping coordinate and welcoming new community members to join in. Big thanks to our current garden leads Michelle Dennis, Tom Huetteman, Sky Woo and Wing Mok!
Steering Committee
Meeting monthly, this committee works closely with Board members, guiding programming and ensuring that San Leandro 2050 remains true to our mission and grounded in the local community. We are often looking for new members. Have ideas and would like to contribute? Let us know!
Staff
San Leandro 2050 is powered by a small but dedicated team of three who carry out the day-to-day work of the organization.
Patty Breslin, Executive Director
Leads strategy, partnerships, and fundraising. She works closely with community members, City staff, funders, and partners to move projects from idea to implementation and to keep our work funded and aligned with our mission.
Ofelia Flores Rodriguez, Outreach Manager
Leads community engagement and relationship-building. She coordinates events, supports volunteers and partners, works with neighborhood leaders, and works to ensure that our programs reflect the voices and needs of the communities we serve.
Gloria Tanui, Grants & Program Manager
Oversees grant and project management, reporting, and budgeting coordination. This role helps ensure that projects stay on track, funds are managed responsibly, and commitments to partners and funders are met.
Together, our staff team works closely with our Board, Steering Committee, garden leaders, and community partners to turn plans into meaningful change in our community.
The fix-it guy
Tony Breslin is one of the fixers extraordinaire behind the scenes at the garden and Resilience Hub. When something needs building, repairing, or figuring out, he’s ready with practical advice on how to keep systems working and problems solved.
Our Board of Directors provides strategic guidance, financial oversight, and accountability to ensure San Leandro 2050 advances its mission with integrity and transparency. All Board members live in San Leandro and are united in their desire to make a difference for people and the planet right here in our city.
Patty Breslin is a co-founder of San Leandro 2050 and acts as its Executive Director. With decades of working with non-profit organizations and a knack for data management, Patty builds San Leandro 2050’s strategic partnerships and is our funder liaison. She has lived in San Leandro for 20+ years.
Emily Breslin is a co-founder of San Leandro 2050 who has helped shape the organization’s strategy over time. She brings a background in climate policy, equity, and the California state policy landscape.
Stefanie Pruegel moved to San Leandro in 2016 and was one of the founding members of San Leandro 2050. She is passionate about gardening and habitat restoration with native plants and helps guide San Leandro 2050’s urban greening and natives and biodiversity efforts. With a background in marketing, Stefanie also supports the communication efforts.
Tom Huetteman is a retired EPA administrator and is another member of the founding group. He envisioned, designed and led the installation of San Leandro 2050’s community food garden and current garden manager. Tom is also very involved in Bethel Community Presbyterian Church’s congregation and serves on their facilities committee.
Fona Oh has been involved with San Leandro 2050 since 2020, when she joined as a high school intern. She later studied urban planning at UC Berkeley and now works with the City of Berkeley in planning and engineering. She currently serves on the San Leandro 2050 Board.

OUR PARTNERS AT
Bethel Community Presbyterian Church
In 2021 we started our partnership with Bethel Community Presbyterian Church in San Leandro’s Halcyon Foothill Neighborhood, when the church opened their grounds to San Leandro 2050 staff and to the building of our community garden. Our two organizations felt immediately aligned in our shared commitment to caring for people and creation, and for strengthening our local community by nurturing neighbor-to-neighbor connections and offering basic needs support services.
We have been working with Pastors Michael and Erina Kim-Eubanks to build the Bancroft Resilience Hub—one part of the City of San Leandro’s effort of creating a Resilience Hub network. Housed on the church’s property, the Hub offers a food pantry, run by San Leandro Community Food Pantry, the community food garden, a native plant and demonstration rain garden, meeting rooms, a shared kitchen, an emergency communications center, and more.
Efforts are underway to electrify the buildings with solar panels and batteries, and the full electrification of the church campus. Ava Community Energy is supporting this effort with a program to provide Resilience Hubs Community Technical Assistance.

With a strong focus on communities most impacted by pollution and limited access to resources, California Climate Investments helps build a more equitable and sustainable future.
